Crystal shape properties and uses

What Various Crystal Shapes Represent

The Cube - Many crystals come in the shape of a cube. This shape is able to harvest a significant amount of energy and can be very stabilizing. Like the calculated nature of their shape, these crystals are easy to program and are known to secure intentions well.

These unique crystals often look like rods or wands, however they are unique because they have points on both ends. These crystals are very powerful because they have the ability to transmit and emit energy from two places. Sometimes one end may be releasing energy while the other point is transmiting energy, other times both points may be transmiting or emiting energy. Because of this, they have many purposes, but should be used with care.

The Double Pointed Crystal - These unique crystals often look like rods or wands, however they are unique because they have points on both ends. These crystals are very powerful because they have the ability to transmit and emit energy from two places. Sometimes one end may be releasing energy while the other point is transmiting energy, other times both points may be transmiting or emiting energy. Because of this, they have many purposes, but should be used with care.

The Tower - This crystal is fairly even on all sides and is aerodynamic, designed to stand up on its own. The best tower shaped crystals are formed so that a pointed tip is at the top of the tower, almost like a castle. These crystals are very powerful and can energize anything that comes near it. Use these tower crystals with caution.

The Wand - This long crystal has one rounded end, one pointed end, and is typically wider on the round side. Wands are usually manmade, but are great healing crystals because it is easy to direct the flow of energy with them

A Guide To Crystal Shapes & their Meanings:

The following is a guide to the energetic meanings and uses of some of the most common crystal shapes available today. This is not everything that these shapes can be used for but is a good place to start.
Tumble Stone

This is also known as a Tumbled Stone. This is the most common cut and polished shape of crystal available. Small chunks of stone are tumble polished to give them a smooth and shiny surface. The form is irregular and sizes vary but generally they are smaller stones.

This form is all-purpose and radiates energy gently in lots of directions. Tumble Stones are so versatile they can be used for carrying on you, placed in bags, in bowls around the home, placed directly on the body or chakras and are ideal for all types of crystal grids. They are more affordable than other forms and a good place to start with a new type of crystal.

Crystal Pyramid

Pyramids have four triangular sides and a square base. Pyramids both anchor and direct energies. They stabilise the energies of the earth while enhancing and projecting energies out the apex. Pyramids work well when placed around the home.

Small ones can be placed on the chakras for chakra balancing. Pyramids make powerful central stones in crystal grids to amplify your intentions, raise the vibration or protect someone.

Crystal Sphere

They are also known as a Crystal Ball. A Crystal Sphere is cut and polished to be perfectly round. Spheres radiate energy smoothly and evenly in all directions. They can also slow down and neutralise harmful or unbalanced energies. They are connected to the Earth, other Planets or the Moon. Sphere’s help open the Third Eye Chakra, assisting people in developing clairvoyance.

It is no surprise that Crystal Spheres are traditionally used for scrying. They can be passed through the aura in crystal healing or held over the chakras. Sphere’s will need a stand for display, they bring a peaceful and grounded energy to the home. Place them in the centre of crystal grids for earth healing, harmony, protection or psychic development.

Crystal Heart

These are any crystal cut into the traditional heart shape symbol. Crystal Hearts represent love, our heart and connect with the energy of our Heart Chakra. These stones can be placed over this chakra in healing work. Small hearts can be carried with you.

Medium to large hearts can be placed around the home, bedroom or within crystal grids. Crystal Hearts can help to attract love or a new relationship. They help heal the heart and emotional wounds. Hearts bring loving energies and help balance relationships.

Standing Crystal Point

These are sometimes called a Crystal Tower. They can be stones cut into a Crystal Point shape or a natural Crystal Point which is cut at the base to allow it to stand up. Like all points, they direct and focus energies out the termination point. Carved Standing Crystal Points are often cut into Generator Point shapes so they help amplify energy and our intentions.

They can be used to raise the vibration of location. Place them on your altar or within any sacred space. Standing Crystal Points are good for gridding the corners of a room or your home. They also make excellent crystals for the central stone in any crystal grid.

Crystal Angel

Crystal Angels come in many shapes and sizes. They are quite minimal and not realistic statues. Crystal Angels anchor angelic energies, helping you connect with different angels or your guardian angels. Small ones can be carried with you in your pocket or a bag.

They can be placed around the home or a healing room for added high vibration angelic support, protection or healing. Crystal Angels can also be placed at the centre of angelic crystal grids.

Crystal Wand

A Crystal Wand is a solid piece of crystal that is cut into either a faceted Crystal Point or rounded, these are sometimes called Massage Wands. Crystal wands come in various shapes and sizes now but the idea is still the same. They are mainly used to direct the energies of the crystal into the aura or chakras.

They can also channel other energies such as Reiki through them by an Energy Healer. The rounded end or fattest end of a Crystal Wand is sometimes used to draw off negative energies.

Crystal Egg

Three dimensional Crystal Eggs come in many different sizes. The egg shape can be used to help shield, heal or strengthen the aura. Crystal Eggs channel the energies of renewal, personal transformation and support new beginnings. Small Eggs could be carried but may be a bit fragile.

Crystal Eggs can be held to meditate with, passed through the aura or placed around the home. Place them in bowls or use a stand like those for crystal spheres. They can be used in the centre of crystal grids for protection, healing or new beginnings.

Crystal Skull

These can be very realistic carvings to more symbolic skulls. The most common ones are based on human skulls and they have the properties described here. Crystal Skulls help people connect with their ancestors, guides or other spiritual teachers and masters.

They can also be worked with for healing, protection and channelling guidance or ancient knowledge. Crystal skulls can be held in the hands while meditating, placed around the home or used as part of crystal grids.

Worry Stones

⚜️ WORRY STONES ⚜️

These flat stones fit nicely in the palm of your hand, some come with a really cool feature: they have a worn down mark perfect for rubbing with your thumb. These guys are dubbed worry stones because they help quell anxiety, stress and worry when you rub them. Others are smooth without the indentation but just as effective.

Keep worry stones in your pocket, so every time you're feeling anxious, you can reach in, palm the stone, and begin rubbing it for relaxing effects. I personally think these are nice stones to keep in the car, too. Traffic can reeeeally be irritating.

What’s a Worry Stone?

A worry stone is a smooth rock used to soothe stress and anxiety. It is a versatile aid for self-calming and meditation. Worry stones may be as small as a thumbprint or as large as the palm of your hand. Larger worry stones may be called palm stones, and look like the oval-shaped rocks used for stone massage.

The most familiar kind of worry stone is a small, thin piece of gemstone with an indentation for the thumb. They became popular in the 1970s as a retail checkout item, along with mood rings and friendship bracelets. They are available in many different types of stone.
Worry stones may be plain or painted/engraved in various designs. Some worry stones are decorated with words of inspiration and encouragement. Religious symbols or sacred animals are also popular worry stone motifs.

Other names for worry stones include fidget stone, soothing stone, sensory stone, or thumb stone. Some people think the phrase “worry stone” is too negative—if that’s the case, call it your lucky stone or friendly stone.

Nobody really knows how worry stones got their start, but it was probably very early in human history. They are literally as old as dirt! It’s easy to imagine a bummed-out cave-person noticing an especially smooth stone in the dust and to begin fiddling with it.

There’s just something calming about the weight and texture of natural stone. The ancient Greeks are usually credited with the invention of the worry stone—though similar concepts exist among Native American tribes, Tibetan Buddhists, and other cultures around the world.

Greece’s many miles of rough coastlines yield stones smoothed naturally by the sea. In modern Greece and Cyprus, komboloi (worry beads) are found in nearly every tourist shop. Unlike rosaries and Indian prayer beads, Greek worry beads do not usually have a religious/spiritual meaning. They are carried as a fashion accessory or a pleasant way to pass the time.

In Ireland, worry stones are made from Connemara marble, a green-veined, serpentine-rich stone from that region. Rubbing a piece of Connemara marble is said to make worries disappear and to bring good luck.

Worry stones have a place in Wiccan and Pagan practice, as well as New Age crystal healing. Different varieties of stone have different vibrational energies, which can affect the user in positive ways. Worry stones can be used to ground or disperse negative feelings and energies. All stones correspond to the element of Earth, which offers gifts of patience, stability, and rest.

How to use it
If you’re worrying about how to use a worry stone…well, you may have more problems than this article can solve. Even so, people do sometimes ask us how to use their worry stone. (For the record: There is no right or wrong way to use your worry stone, but there are different ways to employ it in your practice.) Here are some suggestions for putting your worry stone to work:

Rub it when you feel worried or stressed.

Worry stones have enormous power to soothe frazzled nerves. They are discreet, inexpensive, and all-natural. People who use worry stones report that they help ease creeping anxiety and other negative feelings.

Research has shown that physical activity—even slight touch or movement—interrupts the brain from playing negative thoughts. Rub your worry stone between thumb and forefinger whenever anxiety strikes. While it may not solve your problems, it will diminish the intensity of the worry and help you move toward positive solutions.

Carry it with you.

Emotional self-regulation is a skill that can be learned. Once you’ve practiced setting aside negative thoughts and feelings, an object like a worry stone can be a useful aid in accessing this skill. Psychologists refer to it as triggering a “relaxation script.” In other words, once you see and handle the worry stone, you remember what it feels like to chill out.

If you know you’re going to be in a stressful situation—like being in a crowd or giving a presentation—place your worry stone somewhere you know you will be able to access it if you want to. The presence of a favorite stone can help you relax without ever taking it out of your pocket.

Meditate with your worry stone.

Stones have been used for millennia as an aid to meditation and prayer. Rubbing the stone helps focus the mind and eliminate distractions.

Not religious? You don’t need to be. Even the simplest worry stone is a unique creation that is millions of years old. It’s an excellent way to put your current problems into perspective.

All the anecdotal benefits around worry stones seem to have caught the attention of mental health professionals, some of whom now recommend worry stones for therapeutic purposes.

Worry stones may help with skin picking, fingernail biting, hair pulling, and other compulsive behaviors. They are also used for treating addiction and for smoking cessation. Generally, touching the worry stone replaces the behavior that is being corrected. Playing with it keeps the hands and mind busy until the urge passes.

Worry stones are also used to help cope with sensory integration disorder, especially in children.

✨✨DOUBLE TERMINATED CRYSTALS ✨✨
A double terminated crystal is a stone of balance and integrates spirit and matter. A double terminated crystal provides a connecting bridge between two energy points. A double terminated crystal wand radiates or absorbs energy simultaneously at both ends channeling it in two directions at once.

These formations have a point on either end. These stones grow a bit different than their counterparts, often being born in clay rather than off a hard surface. Its energy moves in two directions at once, making them great choices for gridwork or if you ever want to exchange energy with a person or thing. It can absorb and push out energy at the same time.

These stones can also act as a bridge, connecting two points, areas or even ideas. It acts as a tool to unblock energy, reactivating free-flowing movement.

Different shapes of crystals and how to use them:

TUMBLED

Crystals that have been smoothed or polished from their raw form are usually classified as tumbled stones. They have not been carved into any specific form, but are not jagged to the touch. These crystals are usually more affordable and are good for basic crystal use, including grids, meditation, affirmations, altar work, feng shui or more.

ABUNDANCE

Crystals in an Abundance formation are made up of an elongated quartz crystal with smaller crystals clustered around its base. This is a great stone to attract abundance to your life (hence its name) and is great for acting as a conduit to your wealth and business stones. Check out where to put your wealth and abundance stones here.

NATURAL POINT

Natural points are not necessarily long crystals in a wand-like formation. They are any part of a faceted crystal with a point that has formed naturally, and has not been carved to perfection. These types of stones must be used with caution as the point draws energy to the body (when pointed toward a person) or it draws energy away from the body (when pointed away from the body). These properties make it a great tool for cleansing and healing work.

PHANTOM

The Phantom formation is slightly difficult to find. These crystals have a hazy image within them, although most of the crystal is particularly transclucent. This phantom of ghost within the crystal is said to carry a vast array of information for the past, making it a powerful tool for past-like work and healing. Depending on the crystal that the phantom is found within, additional properties will apply. However, any Phantom formation will be a powerful stone to shake out your skeletons and pave a healthy path for growth.

GENERATOR/TOWER

A Generator will have six facets (of equal or unequal proportions) that meet into one point. It gets its name for its ability to generate amplified energy, boosting the power of other stones, or the stone it is made of. This type of formation is also very powerful for charging other stones.

GEODE

These stones are elusive because they appear ordinary from the outside. However, when they are opened or broken they reveal a hollow cave with crystals sparkling within. Because of their contained form, geodes have the ability to hold energy within and soften it, allowing it to naturally flow out and disperse evenly. These formations are great for protection or for assisting with healing abusive habits such as alcoholism, drug abuse, sex addiction, shopping addiction, and abusive internal monologues.

RAW

Raw stones are in their natural form and have not been smoothed, polished or altered. Though they are more fragile and can break more easily than other formations, many prefer the look of these stones as they would appear raw in their natural habitat. Like tumbled stones, raw stones are great for all spiritual work and are often quite affordable.

PYRAMID

Pyramids are stones that have been shaped into a point with four equal faceted sides and a square base. These formations are great for warding off negative vibrations or removing blocks within the chakra system. This shape is also a great choice to use in affirmation and manifestation work. The properties of the crystal are amplified in this formation. It is a good choice for healers. Some pyramids are shaped into towers like this; they'll maintain a pyramid formation's properties.

SPHERE

The circle emits energy evenly from all angles, and the Sphere formation is no different. These are powerful formations and are often used in scrying as a tool to peer into the past and future. Because the shape is even from every possible angle, it is believed that light, energy and time pass through it with no rules or hindrances, hence their scrying abilities. They often have flaws or occlusions within them which help with the scrying process, though they can be quite expensive depending on their size.

SQUARE

This formation works well with grounding energies and intentions since its energy is contained and enhanced evenly within the stone. It acts as a foundation to meditation practices and has the ability to transmute negative energy into positive energy. These stacking stones are great tools for mindfulness and concentration, especially if you're doing detailed work.

AKASHIC LINES

Akashic lines run horizontally along the crystal's formation (they look vertical in the above photo because the crystal is laying on its side). You can think of them like little ladders along the sides of a crystal. Essentially, they're stripes etched into the stone.

Akasha is a realm of information or library that houses all possible dimensions, and realities. It is too large to explain in one paragraph, and could easily have its own post all to itself. But! It is said that these stones hold many secrets of the world, and by working with them we can learn deeply hidden facets about the world, but also ourselves. This is a great stone to use in meditation.

ISIS

An Isis formation is a crystal that has five main facets, but with one much larger "face" that takes centre stage. Like the fertility goddess herself, Isis formations are believed to dramatically amplify your feminine energy. This is a very powerful formation that can be extremely encouraging, empowering and uplifting, regardless of the properties the crystal type houses.

I recommend putting Isis formations in places that remind you you are powerful, such as in the bedroom on your night table, or on your desk where you come up with your kick ass, hardworking idea. And since Isis formations can help you to feel empowered particularly regarding the ways society has bludgeoned women, it's doubly effective at work.

WORRY STONE

These flat stones fit nicely in the palm of your hand, but come with a really cool feature: they have a worn down mark perfect for rubbing with your thumb. These guys are dubbed worry stones because they help quell anxiety, stress and worry when you rub them.

Keep worry stones in your pocket, so every time you're feeling anxious, you can reach in, palm the stone, and begin rubbing it for relaxing effects. I personally think these are nice stones to keep in the car, too. Traffic can reeeeally be irritating.

DOUBLE TERMINATED

These formations have a point on either end. These stones grow a bit different than their counterparts, often being born in clay rather than off a hard surface. Its energy moves in two directions at once, making them great choices for gridwork or if you ever want to exchange energy with a person or thing. It can absorb and push out energy at the same time.

These stones can also act as a bridge, connecting two points, areas or even ideas. It acts as a tool to unblock energy, reactivating free-flowing movement.

LASER WAND

Laser wands are naturally formed long crystals with small facets on one end, the tip usually smaller than the base. You can purchase stones that have been formed into a traditional wand, but laser wands are typically created in nature. Their bases can be smooth or rough.

These formations can be used much like a traditional magic wand, helping you cast, say affirmations, or do work on your personal altar. They help direct your energy and intentions to a specific area or place. They, too, are exceptional partners for gridwork thanks to their ability to direct energy.

EGG

This shape is manmade, and does not grow naturally (obvi), but don't let that dampen its significance. It's often used as a powerful healing tool, particularly in reflexology and acupressure, thanks to its smooth edges that are perfect for applying pressure in a rolling motion. This shape also has significance with fertility (historically), and can be a good choice for those looking for assistance in this area. Much like sitting on an egg and waiting for it to hatch, eggs are great to sit over in yoga (perhaps with a block beneath you so you don't actually sit on the stone - uncomfortable...) or between your legs with meditation. It's also rumoured that they're power is heightened in spring. Because these guys don't have a specific point or tip, they emit a balanced energy that radiates the same from all angles.

But there's another thing: Yoni eggs are gaining ground. These are crystals in egg formations that are inserted into the vagina. They have profound healing effects. Working with yoni eggs can improve sensuality, produce larger orgasms, feminine empowerment, increased libido, improve natural lubrication and vaginal health, strengthen the pelvic floor and so much more. And while it may sound a little intimidating at first, it's a pretty cool way to have an internal massage while promoting self-care, sexual health and the connectedness to the womb. Here's a really great website with more information.

PICTURE WINDOW

These stones are tumbled into a semi-roundish shape, and then sliced and polished flat on one side, revealing some of the complex inner workings of the crystal in question. Their exteriors often look dusty or frosted. It's pretty cool.

Picture Windows are sometimes called "Seer Stones" and are traditionally used for scrying, a divination technique used for inquiring about the future. It's typically a great formation to use in shamanic practices or with meditation. Hold the frosty part of the crystal in your hands, and gaze into the sliced, clear side to scry or divine.

CLUSTER

Clusters are crystals that have multiple points jutting out from a common base (called a matrix). While there may be multiple points shooting in varying directions, there also may be very few with a larger base.

These stones often work well to charge other stones by laying a smaller stone across the cluster. Clusters are also good choices to use to transform a large or busy space. The higher number of points included in the cluster equates to the crystals amplifying powers.
